Angel of Hope for Women
About the charity
Angels of Hope for Women is a community outreach charity dedicated to the empowerment of females who have experienced domestic abuse and other harmful practises. The Angels provide a much-needed service within their multitude of peer-support groups and workshops, which are all designed to engage and educate the minds of women. Located in Abbey Hey’s Gorton Central, you can expect to find Afro-fit sessions, special guest speakers, and counselling services, along with assistance regarding social and economic issues.
Our Community Engagement Champion; Mike Milenko spoke with Project Worker, Khumbo Langa, who recently completed the Job Gym’s charity & community focused Volunteer Support Programme. Khumbo who has been in the role for only three months, says it has changed her life drastically and presented so many opportunities.
She explains: “I have met people I ordinarily would not have met, so many people from different walks of life. I have only been there a short time, but I feel I have met the whole of Manchester! No matter our background, skin colour or culture, we all share similar issues and celebrate the same things together”.
When asked why people should volunteer at Angels of Hope for Women, Khumbo says, “Volunteering opens so many doors and presents opportunities that wouldn’t normally be there for people who just get on with their own business and don’t think about helping others. When you give to people, goodness comes back; it multiplies”.
