Kal Feleke Starts His Construction Career
Kal Feleke, one of our successful learners, said he was inspired to look at construction as a career after talking to good friends about the industry. He attended one of our open days, and decided that The Job Gym was the best place for him to train. Kal was given a training plan to equip him with the knowledge and skills of what it takes to work in construction, and which courses he would be enrolled in to facilitate his development. One such course was our Health & Safety course, which provided him with the opportunity to gain his CSCS card. Kal told us;
"I was working in the hospitality industry for many years, but there was little or no progression. The construction course has had a significant impact on me, and I have undertaken some courses before, but never as informative as this. I did not understand the levels of health and safety required for construction, or even how long certain substances can stay in the system before the course."
The Job Gym GM focuses on improving people's wellbeing, as well as helping them to advance their employability skills. Regarding this, Kal stated;
"I also think the mental health part of the course is essential. Doing the course has had a really positive impact on me, and I am really looking forward to starting my new career as a construction worker."
Upon training completion, Kal found a placement with ISG PLC to gain industry experience. He was incredibly successful there, and the placement provided him with a job opportunity, earning £10 per hour. This means that Kal achieved what he set out to do, and began a successful career as a construction worker.
Kal came to The Job Gym GM looking to rebuild his career and left, proud of all he achieved. He went on to say;
"This really sets you up and I am thankful I was given the opportunity. The tutors are knowledgeable, and it has really boosted my knowledge and my confidence. I like that there is an end result, and the course itself has given me what I need to start a career in construction."
