Truck Driver Skills Booster

Many employers are now insisting that any new drivers they take on must have completed 21 hours Driver CPC periodic training. Through this programme you can get this training at no cost. You can join the fully funded Work Skills Programme and Truck Driver Skills Booster Course at the Job Gym if you:

• Are aged 19 or over
• Have left compulsory full-time education
• Are unemployed or are being made redundant
• Hold a CAT C driving licence

What you will learn...

Edexcel Level 1 Award in Work Skills

The purpose of this qualification is to help you get a job.
It can help give you the confidence to enter the workplace and develop your skills to research employment opportunities, apply for jobs, and prepare for and take part in interviews. It will also help you to identify further training and development you may need to succeed in the job you are looking for.

• Managing your finances
• Preparing for your interview
• Presenting yourself effectively
• What’s expected of you in the workplace

OCR Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate in Basic Skills

The Job Gym provides coaching to help you improve your literacy and/or numeracy skills. These are the skills you use in your everyday working life, such as reading, writing and maths.

Learning at your own pace you will be coached by one of our Skills for Life tutors in a way that is applicable to everyday use in the logistics sector.

Driver CPC Periodic Training

You will then undertake up to 5 days Driver CPC periodic training towards the Driver Qualification Card. All HGV drivers are required by law to complete 35 hours JAUPT approved training every 5 years.

• Safe and secure loading methods and manual handling
• Accident prevention and dealing with emergencies
• Protecting corporate image and delivering customer care
• Drivers Hoursand Pre-use Vehicle Checks

Alternatively you could take a 3½ day ADR course which qualifies you to transport hazardous goods and you get your 21 hours Driver CPC at the same time. (£100 exam fees apply.)
