If you’ve been made redundant, you’re at risk of being made redundant or you’ve been unemployed for some time and you want to work, we’ve got some great news for you. The government has put £100million into a programme called ‘Response to Redundancy’.
Job Gym fighting the recession Job Gym is a collaboration of independent learning providers who are working together to provide assessment, support and training to people who have recently been made, or are about to be made redundant. We’re based throughout the North West, there will be an office near you – and if not, there will be a local drop-in centre you can visit. You’ll find more details at the back of this brochure.
Your redundancy reflects the fact that your firm has had to downsize for economic reasons. But it’s not all doom and gloom out there. Although the world is in recession, the UK’s North West has a strong commercial and industrial base, and there are businesses out there which need people, and need them now!
With a little help, you may get a similar job to the one you’ve been doing with a new employer. There again, there are other sectors out there that offer security and good pay, and you’d be surprised how quickly and easily you can add to the valuable skills you’ve already got (especially literacy and numeracy) to improve your chances of finding permanent work.
Don’t be put off by the words ‘learning provider’. Nobody’s going to ask you to go back to school. Our job is to help those who want to get back on track, to realise your self-worth, and your value to future employers. We do more than help you pick yourself up. We help you learn to help yourself, to be positive about your future, and to discover how your talents and skills can point you to different employment opportunities.
Job Gym benefits
Response to Redundancy is government funded, so all the benefits of personal development and skills acquisition through this initiative are yours at no monetary cost to yourself – yet they could benefit you in so many positive ways. You must be over 18, and eligible for Learning Skills Council and European Social funding - don’t worry most people are.
We’ll help you find a job!
We’ll help you get back to work and your first new job is getting yourself back into work.
You’ve been working, and we know how devastating it can be to lose your job. Your income falls dramatically, and you may be asking yourself the question ‘Why me?’ But as stated earlier, you’re not responsible for the slack economy.
You’re used to action. To full days spent at work, and you have the ‘work ethic’ – so that when it’s taken away, you’re bound to feel lost, and it’s so easy to fall by the wayside and not be bothered to do anything positive with your time.
Pick yourself up...
Our first priority is your well-being. We discuss your strengths with you and help you to understand how you can use them to your advantage in looking at new employment opportunities. This will help you to face the situation you find yourself in and give you the confidence to tackle the future – prospective employers will be interested in your strengths once they’re identified.
Dust yourself off...
Perhaps you’ve not needed to go through the rigmarole of trying to get a job for a very long time. We’ll help you to simplify the whole procedure by showing you how to prepare yourself, how to put your ‘CV’ together, and how to make the most of your chances at each stage of the interview process. And we are excellent at giving the kind of advice that makes it more likely you’ll get those all-important interviews.
...and start all over again!
All the Job Gym learning providers in this initiative have loads of experience, and you’ll be surprised how quickly we can help you get a job.
We’ll help you grow in confidence by working with you to develop the skills we know you already have - skills you probably didn’t know you could use in trying to get a job in a new employment sector.
As well as brushing up on your old skills, you will also be given the opportunity to gain new ones. The new skills you learn with us will help you to take advantage of the job markets that need these skills. The Job Gym really can help to change your life.
